Original WWII WW2 S/244 Mundlos German K98 Mauser Knife/Bayonet & Scabbard, Frog

A Beautiful & Original WWII WW2 S/244 Mundlos German K98 Mauser Knife/Bayonet & Scabbard, Frog.

It is prominently featured in George Wheeler's Seitengewehr Book.

This is an early issued Seitengewehr 84/98 bayonet with a mounted type frog made for the Wehrmacht Armed Forces in Germany and was standard issue between 1934 - 1945.

It is marked S/244.G on the Ricasso. The Reverse Side of the Ricasso reads "5017" with a lowercase "g" below the number.

S/244 Identifies the Maker as Mundlos and "G" means it was manufactured in 1935

The scabbard and finial are in excellent condition with expected wear. The Finial is marked "A219".

The Frog type was introduced in 1939 for the complete Heer (Army) and fits this bayonet perfectly. It is marked by a cross and "926" with a lowercase "g" below the number.

Crossguard has expected wear and is solid.

Grips are intact and the wooden handles are in very good condition with no movement and some scratches and what looks like "5N" hand scribbled on one side.

Pommel & Press Catch are functional.

The Blade looks sharpened, and after multiple opinions by expert collectors, the consensus is although it was forbidden for German Soldiers to sharpen their blades since the weapon is used to thrust and not cut, some did it to use it as a tool or an application knife. In summary, the blade is believed to have been sharpened during that era and has not been done in modern times.
