What is my Hot Wheels collection worth?
- is a question all of us have asked ourselves at one point or another. Now we all know condition is the main factor when considering worth with any collectible. Here are some questions you need to ask yourself:1. Has my toy been played with?
2. If not, does it have the original packaging?
3. If it does, is the packaging damaged?
The most valuable Hot Wheels toys are ones which have never been opened or played with. Most of us played with our toys, which is why unopened examples are selling for considerably more.
I found original Redline Hot Wheels, SCORE!
Great find! Thinking of selling them? Good! How's the paint on them? It's important that the wheels are all present and not bent. Check the bottom of the vehicle, is the metal still intact or is it starting to corrode due to humidity? If everything looks fantastic expect the value of most vehicles to range between $10 - $150 each. If any sort of damage is found, depending on the vehicle, one could still rack up $2 - $50 each.
Price Guide said my Redline is $200 why did it sell for $14 on eBay?
Price guides should NEVER be used to evaluate your collection. Their only purpose serves as a checklist or variety/rarity evaluation. Many collectors agree the average worth of an item is actually 40% less than what's on the price guide. I recently visited with a stamp collecting expert and he mentioned stamp values could be as low as 10% of their total book value. Yes! A $100 price guide evaluation may only realize $10! Crazy - I know!
